OpenAI doubles ChatGPT Pro usage limits after backlash over planned 50% cut

OpenAI says it won't reduce usage limits for the $100, $200, and $500 ChatGPT Pro plans, as well as Business Premium, and it also promised to keep Dots usage independent. In a post on X, Tibo, who is the face of ChatGPT and Codex on X, confirmed that the changes take effect immediately and primarily affect ChatGPT Work and Codex, which share usage allowances under eligible subscriptions. OpenAI had previously planned to reduce the included usage allowance for existing Pro 200 subscribers after October 29, despite keeping the subscription price at $200 per month. However, OpenAI has now reversed that decision following customer feedback. "We are doubling all usage limits for all Pro 100/200/500 tiers and Business Premium, effective today," Tibo announced on X. "We heard your kind feedback and won’t be reducing usage limits for Pro 200, so your Work and Codex usage will stay the same."

Binance probes potential $5.8 billion crypto-theft hack

Cryptocurrency exchange Binance is investigating a potential security breach involving up to $5.8 billion in digital assets, in what could become the largest cryptocurrency hack in history. If confirmed stolen, the amount would far exceed the $1.5 billion stolen from Bybit by North Korean hackers in February 2025, the largest confirmed crypto heist on record. The suspected breach has already prompted stablecoin issuers Tether and Circle to freeze more than $2.3 billion in assets associated with the incident. In a statement to BleepingComputer, a Binance spokesperson confirmed that the exchange was investigating reports of a potential security issue while reassuring customers that their funds were safe. "Our teams are aware of reports of a potential security issue and are actively investigating. Rest assured that user funds are completely safe," the spokesperson told BleepingComputer.

Japan Airlines suffers third-party data breach exposing passenger info

Japan Airlines (JAL) has announced that a data breach at Amadeus’s Passenger Service System exposed the data of about 92,000 customers. JAL Group, which operates the airlines JAL and Japan Transocean Air, uses the system to handle passenger reservations, ticketing, and check-in. According to its announcement, Amadeus notified the airline on October 23, 2026, that unauthorized access to its systems occurred between August 10, 2023, and September 23, 2026. As a result of this lengthy breach, the threat actor accessed reservation codes (PNRs), names, flight dates, routes, and travel classes for approximately 90,000 customers. An additional 2,000 customers had the above data types exposed, plus their email addresses, phone numbers, passport numbers, nationalities, frequent flyer numbers, and flight, ticket, and seat numbers.

Fake crypto app on Apple App Store linked to $23K wallet theft

A fake cryptocurrency trading app called Padre Terminal, previously available on the Apple App Store for iOS devices, has been linked to the theft of approximately $23,000 from 27 Solana wallets. Blockchain investigator Iris confirmed that one victim was compromised through the malicious App Store app, but has not determined how the other affected wallets were compromised. The researcher says the app drains wallets after unsuspecting users import their private keys into it. Padre was a cryptocurrency trading platform, mainly used to buy and sell meme coins on Solana. It was later renamed Terminal by pump.fun, a platform focused on creating, buying, and selling cryptocurrency “meme coins” on the Solana blockchain. Iris says the legitimate Padre trading service, now Terminal by pump.fun, is web-only, so any mobile apps impersonating it, including the one previously available on the App Store, are malicious.

Hackers exploit Cisco SD-WAN flaw to deploy custom KeyDrift malware

A newly identified advanced persistent threat (APT) group tracked as UAT-11473 was observed exploiting CVE-2026-20127, an authentication-bypass flaw in Cisco Catalyst SD-WAN Controllers, to deploy a custom malware framework called KeyDrift. CVE-2026-20127 is a max-severity flaw that Cisco patched in February 2026, which allows remote attackers to gain privileged access to Catalyst SD-WAN Controller and Manager and add rogue peers. UAT-8616 has exploited the vulnerability as a zero-day since at least 2023, and recent research also linked its exploitation to the Chinese Volt Typhoon state-sponsored hacking group. According to Cisco Talos researchers who reported on the activity, the UAT-11473 threat cluster appears to overlap with Volt Typhoon’s "Silent Train" covert access network, but they made no definitive links.

U.S. CISA adds Linux Kernel and Broadcom VMWare ESX  flaws to its Known Exploited Vulnerabilities catalog

U.S. Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Security Agency (CISA) adds Linux Kernel and Broadcom VMWare ESX flaws to its Known Exploited Vulnerabilities catalog. The U.S. Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Security Agency (CISA) added Linux Kernel and Broadcom VMWare ESX vulnerabilities to its Known Exploited Vulnerabilities (KEV) catalog: Below are the flaws added to the catalog: CVE-2026-41709 (CVSS score of 7.6) Broadcom VMWare ESX Insufficient Logging Vulnerability CVE-2026-46300 (CVSS score of 2.7) Linux Kernel Missing Initialization of a Variable Vulnerability In July, Broadcom released patches to address five vulnerabilities affecting VMware ESXi, vCenter, Workstation, and Fusion, including CVE-2026-41709. The vulnerability in VMware ESX is caused by insufficient logging. A malicious user with administrator privileges could perform certain operations on the affected system without those actions being recorded in the logs. This could allow an attacker to hide specific activities and make it harder for security teams to detect suspicious behavior, investigate incidents, and determine what happened. The flaw does not itself grant administrator privileges; the attacker must already have them. According to CrowdStrike’s 2026 Legal Threat Landscape Report, which said the China-linked threat actor Warp Panda (aka Armory Castle, UNC5221, Clay Typhoon and VerdantBamboo) exploited CVE-2026-41709 as a zero-day in early 2026 to reduce the visibility of its activities in audit logs. Warp Panda targets internet-facing edge devices by exploiting zero-day vulnerabilities and deploying custom malware to maintain persistent, covert access. The group also attempts to evade detection by bypassing audit logging, stealing cloud session tokens and registering unauthorized multi-factor authentication (MFA) devices. The second flaw added to the catalog is CVE-2026-46300, also known as Fragnesia, could let local attackers gain root access through page cache corruption. The flaw affects the XFRM ESP-in-TCP subsystem and could allow local attackers to gain full root access by corrupting the kernel page cache. Security experts warn that the issue is dangerous because attackers with low privileges can modify read-only files in memory and take complete control of vulnerable systems. The vulnerability was discovered by William Bowling of the V12 security team, while Wiz published a detailed technical analysis. “The vulnerability allows unprivileged local attackers to modify read-only file contents in the kernel page cache.” reads the report published by Wiz. “Attackers can then achieve root privileges through deterministic page-cache corruption.” Fragnesia shares similarities with earlier Linux privilege escalation flaws, such as Dirty Frag and Copy Fail. According to researchers, the bug can reliably provide root access on major Linux distributions without requiring race conditions or complicated timing attacks. According to Binding Operational Directive (BOD) 22-01: Reducing the Significant Risk of Known Exploited Vulnerabilities, FCEB agencies have to address the identified vulnerabilities by the due date to protect their networks against attacks exploiting the flaws in the catalog. Experts also recommend that private organizations review the Catalog and address the vulnerabilities in their infrastructure. CISA orders federal agencies to fix CVE-2026-41709 by November 11, 2026, while CVE-2026-46300, must be fixed by October 31, 2026. Microsoft fixes Remote Desktop failures caused by recent Windows updates

Microsoft has resolved a known issue that prevents non-admin users from connecting to devices via Remote Desktop when the "Administrator protection" security feature is enabled. When Administrator protection is enabled, it prompts standard users to authenticate with Windows Hello (PIN or biometric) when they try to change the Windows Registry or install new apps. This feature began rolling out in October 2025 and is now enabled by default in organizations using Windows security baselines after installing the October 2026 Windows security update. Microsoft acknowledged on October 13 that Remote Desktop connections may fail with error 0xC000000D after installing the KB5124010 September 2026 non-security preview update (or Windows updates released since then) on systems running Windows 11 24H2 and later.
